“Kick Away Your Faults!”
According to Wikipedia, Peanuts "has been described as ‘the most shining example of the American success story in the comic strip field’, ironically, it is based on the theme of ‘the great American unsuccess story’, since the main character, Charlie Brown, is meek, nervous, and lacks self-confidence, being unable to fly a kite, win a baseball game, or kick a football…." Charlie Brown continues to try, again and again, only to fail every time. When he goes to see Lucy, who is pretending to be a psychiatrist, he leaves feeling worse about himself and his life, not better. Watch Lucy help Charlie.
What makes Charlie Brown’s (mis)adventures so captivating that hundreds of millions of readers followed them? Maybe it is because–in Charlie Brown–we recognize our own tendency to repeat certain thought, emotion, and/or action patterns, even though we don’t like the results. By laughing, gently and compassionately, we create the energy and sense of possibility we need to try something new and different.
