Just under five months and counting until the 1919 Boston Police Strike centennial!

Our next meet-up is scheduled for Friday, April 26, 2019, at UMass Boston and we look forward to seeing you and to having a great session.

This month, we will pivot slightly from our usual format and will use our time together as a working session. Following our discussion last month about the Reviewing phase of the project and the need for additional attention on a list of focused, smaller special projects, we plan to spend the session practicing and working as a group on three specific areas:

  • Guided reviewing of starter worksheets
  • Transcribing striker biographies from the 1901 BPD Yearbook
  • Creating short videos, using cell phones, about your experience as a Boston Police Strike Project volunteer and/or descendant of striker(s)

We have learned from your feedback forms that you are interested in doing more teamwork activities during the meet-ups and we wish to kick-off the “working session” format with this month’s meet-up. You are welcome to work on any of the three activities that interest you. We invite those who have already transitioned to Reviewing work to help guide others who may be studying the Reviewing module and practicing Reviewing work for the first time.

We will also update you on progress regarding the upcoming stages of the project (reviewing/closing, data entry, biographical profiles, and 2019 culminating event planning), and will answer your questions and general research needs.

Please note that we will be meeting in the CALLI room location: Healey Library, 4th  floor.

All current volunteers are welcome, including those in the process of taking the online training course. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Directions to campus are available here, and a campus map is available here. PLEASE NOTE: The exterior stairs from the plaza up to Healey Library are CLOSED. Please access Healey Library through the catwalk system.

We look forward to seeing you!

  1. Unfortunately, I can’t be there for this session, as I have to take my partner to the hospital that day for an outpatient procedure.

I will be in touch regarding where I got stuck in my efforts to help with the research.

I hope this working session goes well, and I look forward to the next session.

    My apologies!

    Marguerite
